Do You Think You Can? Reflections, Possibilities, and a New Year Ahead
I get wistful this time of year – childhood memories, life disappointments, and wishes, all jumbled together. As I lay in bed this week (at some way-too-early-to-get-out-of-bed hour) this image popped into my head: The Little Engine That Could. A book my father read to me – acting out all the voices, of course – as I sat on his lap, cozy and close.
😉 What a synchronistic, maybe ironic, image for a person who now makes her living as a coach!
“I think I can, I think I can, I think I can …” says the small engine as she chugs up the big hill, straining yet pulling the stalled-out train full of toys to their destination town.
Oh, I see your slightly-deserved eye-roll, friend! Of course, the repetition of “I” suggests we climb our own mountains alone. But, you know me: I absolutely l-o-a-t-h-e that b.s. thinking.
We need champions and challengers to hold us close, and help us uncover – and then make real – our greatest hopes.
Now is the season of wonder. And, a New Year awaits. Do YOU think you can?
Grab this moment. Ask yourself these 3 easy-hard questions:
What’s amazingly possible for me?
What gives me pause?
And, what if … I don’t even try?
